Record Setting Trump
Record Setting Trump is the Republican’s favorite talking point, as Trump won more votes in the Republican presidential primaries than any previous candidate. While it is true, it was not really a good measure of his popularity. The population grows significantly every 4 years, so every presidential primary winner should set a new record. There were 17 candidates in the field, but only for one primary. Several candidates dropped out after Iowa. The field whittled down to only a handful after a few more contests. Bearing in mind that Trump went unopposed after the Indiana primary it would have been amazing if he had not set a new record.
Verdict: True but Misleading
